Collision Detection, a while ago, pointed to an essay by Eric Raymond, the open source guy, called….you might want to be sitting down for this…. “Sex Tips For Geeks: The Art of the Pickup”
I have not actually read the essay. Its a tough choice: should I actually go and read it, or should I gouge out my eyeballs with a grapefruit spoon?

Heh. That was pretty funny. The funniest part is that I pretty much figured all that stuff out for myself back in the ’80s. I was a shy geek, but I learned to overcome it through sheer Spock-like force of will. His bit about ‘faking it’ to project self-confidence was right. It’s like the cargo cults. Make it look right, and the right things will happen.
