I laughed and laughed, reread some parts and laughed and laughed again. I am so glad the deer survived the injury. Oh, and you might want to look into some mountain lion repellent...just a thought!
Thanks for sharing this story! Laughter is good medicine for the soul and I had
several doses worth reading it!

It took me this long to get around to reading this, but now I’m very glad I didn’t skip it. Hilarious! You did an excellent job building up the absurdity until I damned near died laughing at the mental image of deer peering out of the fridge.

Good luck with the mountain lion.

Shooting it wouldn't have helped, anyway. You'd just clear a space for another to move it. Since I don't recall California being a big hunting state, I imagine the deer population is out of control anyway. Of course, if you ate deer, you'd be all set.

Skinning a deer is not for the faint of heart or weak of stomach. Unless you're very good, you'll puncture the gut, and probably hurl.

And.. um... mutton is sheep. Venison is deer.

Thunderous applause, for the writing and the triumph over the deer.

"'Maybe the deer didn’t read the list,' Eric said." I love the Eric character, he's so life-like.

Cheers.

Whence the mutton, though?
